Jambo (Hello) and Karibu (welcome)
to the Homepage of the
Embassy of
Kenya in Vienna.
The website
is intended to provide you with basic information and
its links to a number of other websites for further and
more specialized information on various aspects of
Kenya, an amazing land of contrasts which has aptly been
described by many as the “Whole of Africa in One
Country”.
There are
several sections to explore on the website. In the
tourism section, you will find out that no other country
on earth can offer you as much to see and do. In this
original safari country (“safari” was actually born and
bred in Kenya it simply means “journey” in kiswahili),
you will be introduced to the unbelievable and
unparalleled beauty with pristine white sandy beaches,
equatorial forests and snow capped mountains right on
the equator, deserts and magnificent green rolling hills
on which the famed Kenyan tea and coffee are grown, and
the dramatic and wide vistas of the savannah rich with
big game. Kenya, you will learn, is the habitat par
excellence of Africa’s famous “Big Five” (Lion,
Elephant, Rhino, Leopard and Buffalo). The incredible
variety and range of our flora and fauna and the natural
unspoilt beauty of our country is simply incomparable.
As you
travel the website, you will experience a unique
cultural mélange of Kenya’s 42 different ethnic groups
and languages. Despite this diversity, Kenya has defied
the course of events elsewhere in Africa by remaining a
peaceful nation united by a common Kenyan culture, and a
hard working and proud but humble people who are always
ready to tell you ‘karibu’. Translated into English, it
means welcome but in Kenya, it is a greeting, an
invitation and a blessing.
Information
on business opportunities awaits investors and business
people at the section on “Business and Economy”. You
will be exposed to the biggest economy in Eastern
African and a gateway to East and Central Africa.
Nairobi, the hub of business activity in the region is a
modern metropolis with any facilities required by a
business traveler, including world class Golf courses.
What however makes it unique is that only 25 minutes
from the city center, you will find some of the “Big
Five” in Nairobi National Park, the world’s only urban
game park.
Information is also provided about
the Embassy and its consular services ranging from
issuance of visas to procedures for those wishing to
exchange their wedding vows in this country at the heart
of Africa where scenery and peoples, climate and
wildlife combine to create endless opportunities for
adventure and relaxation as well as business and
investment.
We
shall endeavour to update our website regularly to serve
you better in terms of providing more information and
being user-friendly. Kenya has been described as
a magical country: Our website shall strive to capture
and portray this magic. Your valuable
suggestions and comments on ways to improve our website
are always welcome.
Asante sana (Thank you
very much)
Ambassador
